America’s 250th Anniversary Essay Contest

The Tennessee Association of Fairs and the Tennessee Society of the Sons of the American Revolution are sponsoring America’s 250th Anniversary Essay Contest All 4th and 5th grade students enrolled in Smith County schools, either public school, private school, or homeschool, are eligible to enter.
Each essayist must enter through their local county fair. Judging will be conducted at each fair and a winner will be selected by the fair’s appointed judges. Each fair will submit their winning essay to a representative of the Tennessee Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. A panel of judges from SAR will determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd place state-wide winners.
The 1st place state-wide winner will be invited to attend the Tennessee Association of Fairs Annual Convention in January 2025 to present the winning essay and be presented with a check for $500.
Topic of the essay — The First Continental Congress: The impact on our nation’s fight for freedom and the lasting effect it had on the British.
Each essay is limited to 500 words maximum.
How to enter the contest at Smith County Fair: Essays must be submitted by 3 P.M. on Monday, July 1, 2024. Printed copies of the essay may be presented at the 4-H Exhibits Room in the Smith County Ag Center or emailed to [email protected]. Awards at County Fair level: 1st place $25, 2nd place $20, and 3rd place $15.
